Our Home

We live in a refurbished farmhouse built in the 1830’s. It was the only house on a large plot of land at that time, and then became the family home to folks who had a fruit farm. There are 4 bedrooms, but at one time there were 8 bedrooms and up to 16 people living here. It has been lovingly restored over the years, and we now reap the benefits of central heat/air, and all the modern conveniences of a newly built house.

We are very lucky to have two fireplaces, and enjoy sitting by the fire when it’s really cold and during the holidays. We are close to our neighbors and consider them good friends. We have barbecues and dinners with them regularly. It’s a very kid friendly neighborhood and our house is on a cul de sac, and down the street from the elementary school.

C.C. loves to decorate for holidays but especially in the Scandinavian style she grew up with (like the Swedish Easter tree to usher in spring, below). We have a thriving berry patch and enjoy mounds of strawberries and raspberries through the spring and summer. We were lucky to find a home so close to New York City (30 miles away) that has a large fenced in backyard, and more room to plant a vegetable garden.

Our Community

We are lucky to live in such a spirited small village north of New York City. We have access to all the culture, history, and fun in the city, and can head there anytime, it’s just like a neighboring town. But our village feels like it could be any thriving small town in America.

It has a diverse population, breathtaking views of the Hudson river, fantastic highly rated schools, and a wonderful public library, It is a lush area full of parks, trails and nature preserves. The fall here is especially fun and full of historic Halloween activities. We have a wonderful community of friends and neighbors, and feel very grateful for finding this great area.
